In the territory of the republic, 1928 illegal waste dumps covering approximately 721 hectares have been identified. This became known as a result of space monitoring conducted by the Agency "Uzbekcosmos."
Out of these, 123 dumps covering 255.5 hectares are registered as being outside the waste disposal sites, while 1805 covering 465.2 hectares are classified as illegal waste sites.
The highest number of dumps was found in the Tashkent region – 363 (98.6 hectares), in Karakalpakstan – 243 (63.2 hectares), in Navoi – 216 (112.4 hectares), and in Namangan – 195 (42 hectares).
The least number of illegal dumps is located in the Jizzakh region – 39 (30.44 hectares) and in the Surkhandarya region – 40 (20.11 hectares). No illegal dumps were found in the capital.
“The creation of such illegal waste sites is primarily dangerous as it has a significant negative impact on the environment and ecology, and adversely affects the quality of soil, water, and air,” the statement says.
Moreover, this contributes to an increase in harmful insects, infectious diseases, and the development of lung cancer and respiratory diseases in people.
