During the latest plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, the law "On Space Activities" was approved.
This law outlines the fundamental concepts and principles of space activities, the objectives for their implementation, and the key directions of state policy in the field of space activities. It also establishes the authorities of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Digital Technologies, and the subordinate Agency for Space Research and Technology, as well as the Ministry of Defense regarding space activities.
Senators noted that the adoption of this law will regulate the field of space activities, clearly define the responsible bodies, their powers and responsibilities, and create legal guarantees for the implementation of space activities while mitigating potential risks.
"This will enable us to successfully conduct activities in the country across all sectors, including land relations, geology, seismic safety, transportation, agriculture, forestry, water management, and road infrastructure,” the senators emphasized.
Specifically, the law addresses issues related to conducting scientific research in outer space, types of space systems, such as remote sensing of the Earth, space monitoring, space communication systems, high-precision satellite navigation systems, and more. The document establishes the procedures for the marking and leasing of space objects, the disposal of space objects and technical means, the safety of space infrastructure and activities, the foundations for financing activities, and matters of international cooperation.
Particular attention in the law is given to issues such as the exploration and utilization of outer space and Earth through space technologies to achieve goals in scientific, socio-economic, environmental, defense, security, and other fields, as well as monitoring the impact of space activities on the environment, natural resources, and public health.
