Shavkat Mirziyoyev has presented Timur Ishmetov's candidacy for the position of Chairman of the Central Bank to the Senate. This was reported by the president's press secretary Sherzod Asadov.
Ishmetov currently serves as the first deputy advisor to the president on the development of economic sectors, investments, and foreign trade. In his new role, he will succeed Mamarizo Nurmuratov, who has headed the regulatory body since 2017.
Timur Ishmetov (born in 1979) graduated from the Tashkent Financial Institute (2000), the University of Birmingham (2005), and the Tashkent State Law Institute (2007). He has been working at the Central Bank since 2000.
Over the years, he has led the Monetary Operations Department, the International Reserves Management Department, the Domestic Foreign Exchange Market Operations Department, and the Currency Regulation and Control Department of the Central Bank. From June 2017 to May 2019, he held the position of first deputy chairman of the Central Bank.
In May 2019, Ishmetov was appointed as the first deputy minister of finance, and in February 2020, he became the head of the Ministry of Finance. In December 2022, following the announcement of the merger between the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economic Development, he took on the role of deputy advisor to the president.
Update: The Senate Council has decided to appoint Timur Ishmetov as the Chairman of the Central Bank.
