Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoyev submitted a proposal to the Senate of the Oliy Majlis for the dismissal of Mamarizo Nurmuratov from the position of Chairman of the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The president's spokesperson, Sherzod Asadov, confirmed this information.
The news of Nurmuratov's resignation first emerged on social media. According to Uzbekistan's legislation, the appointment and dismissal of the Chairman of the Central Bank is carried out by the Senate upon the president's proposal.
Mamarizo Nurmuratov has held the position of head of the Central Bank since June 6, 2017, succeeding Faizulla Mullajanov. In May 2022, his term was extended for another five years. During his tenure, the regulator implemented extensive liberalization of the currency policy, resulting in the introduction of a unified market exchange rate, the elimination of the "black market" for currency, and citizens gained the ability to freely buy and sell foreign currency. Exporters were also granted the right to independently manage their foreign currency earnings.
Nurmuratov, a graduate of the Tashkent Institute of National Economy and the Leningrad Economic and Financial Institute, has significant experience in the banking sector and public administration. Before being appointed as head of the Central Bank, he held various leadership positions within the banking system and served as Minister of Finance and Hokim of the Samarkand region.
