In 2024, Americans are expected to spend a record $4.1 billion on Halloween, with a significant portion going towards chocolate candies.
The price of chocolate has reached an all-time high due to inflation and adverse weather conditions that have negatively impacted cocoa bean harvests, reports The Wall Street Journal.
According to research firm Agritask, the average price for 450 grams of chocolate in September was $9.19, which is nearly 40% higher than the average over the past five years.
Families are anticipated to spend around $30.89 on candy purchases for the holiday, leading to a total national expenditure that is 3.5% higher than last year.
